The Estimation Process Document file is a document to describe the process that should be used in generating the estimates. The file is a complete Word® (Version 9.0) document.

The Process and Template help do estimates in a more proceduralized way. Its goal is to:

  • Reduce the chances that a group's input will be missed;
  • Capture hours estimates by task,
  • Log assumptions and risks by functional area;
  • Creates a structure where all estimations are two steps:
    • Estimate the size of the estimation process at hand.
    • The estimation of the size of task the task being requested.

The intent is that this process is used in conjunction with the Change Request Process although it could be used for other estimations, too. It can be used as-is or customized to better meet your specific situation.

The Risk Tool Template is an Excel® Workbook Template (XLT file) that can be placed in the project's template repository for all to use. It can be used stand alone or customized to better meet the project's specific situation. The file is a complete Excel® (Version 9.0) document. It uses user-defined functions and macros, so Excel may warn about enabling macros upon opening.

The zip file contains:

  1. The User Guide that describes the functions and use of the tool at a specific version level.
  2. The Risk Tool in an Excel template format that can be used in a project.

The Change Request Form Template is a Word® Document Template (DOT file) that can be placed in the project's template repository for all to use. It could be used stand alone or customized to better meet your specific situation. The file is a complete Word® (Version 9.0) document. It uses document fields for some simple automation, so training the team on the use of Word® will be required.

The Change Request Log is a tool to log and track change requests. Although a database tool would be a much better way to track change requests this is a good starting point especially of your project is already running and needs this type of control. It could be used stand alone or customized to better meet your specific situation. The file is an Excel® (version 9.0) file.
