PMI Willamette Valley: Professional Development Conference 2015

Date: Friday, October 16, 2015
Duration: All Day

PMI Willamette Valley's biggest event of the year, the 2015 Professional Development Conference.

The theme for this year is Quantum Change: Bringing it to the Next Level, (or small changes that can make a big difference – like the one degree change in temperature that turns boiling water into steam). Building on past successes we can now get economies of scale and have made some changes to bring this year’s Conference to an entirely new level!  PMI WV will be doing breakout sessions giving you more choice about what subject matter will be most valuable to you or get you the right mix of PDU’s.

There is no doubt that making the right connections is one of those things that can help you bring it to the next level. The PDC’s opening keynote speaker KL Wells of Networking Power will coach us in strategic networking methods which she has pioneered. This will provide us all a powerful framework for making those vital connections with other professionals at the Conference and during the reception in the evening.

Morning breakout sessions will include Scaling Agile, An Exploration of Online Collaboration Tools, and Innovative Risk Analysis.

Todd Williams who gave us an excellent keynote last year will again be our lunch keynote speaker. This year his presentation is on People vs. Process with a focus on leadership and “what will take your career from water to steam.”

Afternoon breakout sessions will include Data Science & Analytics for Project Managers, Change Management and more on Team Collaboration.

Finally, executive leadership coach and strategic planning consultant Jennifer Webster, PhD will help us all bring our leadership skills to the next level as our closing keynote speaker.

About our Keynote: People vs Process:

Process drives our lives. It provides the comfort of consistency, accuracy, and conformance.  Add people, however—people with personality, prejudice, and protest—and processes fall short.  To deal with the realities of business, we need a toolbox of techniques for managing and leading people while balancing the competing interests of stakeholders who simply want consistently successful results.  This seminar starts by looking at the lynch pin of business—process—why it is important, when it is an appropriate solution, and how its overuse generates failure.  It provides insight into some of the quirks inherent in people by using estimation processes to expose our personal biases that defeat process.  The presentation culminates with a lesson and discussion on leading and incentivizing people as a replacement for layering on process, which only increase bureaucracy.
