\nVisualizing Projects: An Interactive Leadership Techn
ique
\nHave you ever wondered how ropes\, name tags\, blindfolds\, wa
termelons\, and elastic bands could be used in a business presentation? T
hey all represent constraints and conditions in our everyday work life.\nVisualizing Change\, is a new highly interactive form of presentati
on. It is used to address virtually any problem. If desired\, it can be u
sed to apply a set of principles to test how they can affect the problem.
Visualizing Change are primarily custom presentations targeting a specif
ic problem the client may be experiencing. The general format of the pre
sentation are:
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nPrototype the curren
t state.
\nLearn about principles that might help.
\nPrototype a
future state.
\nValidate solutions.
\nCreate actions to impleme
nt the solutions.
\n
\nA favorite presentation is the Project Pr
ototype. This generic presentation starts by identifying a problem with m
ost projects—they are too focused on process. A project prototype is exe
rcise is done with the audience. In this between 10 and 15 people act out
the way they do projects today. The problems are noted. Instruction is
given on why we really on process and how we can change that with leader
ship techniques. A second project prototype is done to apply the principl
es learned.
\nAt the end\, three or more action points are enumerated
that should be implemented in the project methodology. The group assigns
responsible party to each action for implementation.
\n
\nBy
the end of the presentation\, attendees will understand the importance of:
\n
\nProject leadership.
\nThe project manager's vision.\nModeling out problems so they can be visualized.
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nAttendees will also un
derstand the importance of balancing people and process\, where to focus
their efforts. The benefit of being more involved with the inner workings
of the project will be evident.
